Police update: Serious assault, East Mackay

Detectives have charged a man following investigations into the assault of a 52-year-old man in East Mackay on March 14.

At 6am, the man was at his Kippen Street house when he heard a loud bang from the front of his residence.

Police will allege as he walked outside, he saw a man open the driver's door of his Toyota Hilux which was parked on the road.

A verbal altercation occurred before the 52-year-old man was struck by what is believed to be a steel bar to the right side of his head.

He man was transported to Mackay Base Hospital and then to Townsville Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries.

A 23-year-old South Mackay man has been charged with grievous bodily harm, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break and enter and two counts of stealing.

He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on July 21.
