Police update: Wounding charge at Cairns

A 43-year-old man has been charged following investigations into an incident at a Cairns restaurant on Friday night.

It will be alleged a group of people were at the Florence Street restaurant when one of the men became verbally aggressive towards another man in the group around 10am.

It will be further alleged the same man then struck the other man in the face with a wine glass, causing it to shatter.

A 37-year-old man sustained a significant facial laceration which required surgery at Cairns Hospital.

The 43-year-old Manoora man has been charged with one count of unlawful wounding and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on March 7.
