Police update: Wounding, Helensvale

Police have charged a man following investigations into the shooting of a 19-year-old man at Helensvale on Monday January 23.

It will be alleged that just before 6.20pm, a 19-year-old Oxenford man arrived in a carpark on Sir John Overall Drive in a stolen white 2022 Skoda Kamiq, in convoy with a group travelling in a stolen grey 2016 Mercedes Benz.

The 19-year-old exited the Skoda and was standing in the carpark when he received a gun-shot wound to his elbow.

It will be alleged that shooter fled the scene in a White Nissan Qashqai.

The 19-year-old was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The Skoda was recovered in the vicinity of the Helensvale crime scene on January 23.

The Qashqai was recovered during a search warrant at Pimpama on January 24.

The Mercedes was recovered at Gaven on January 27.

Following thorough investigations, police arrested a 34-year-old Moorooka man at Narangba on March 8.

He was subsequently charged with two counts of unlawful possession of weapons and possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of unlawful wounding, armed robbery, attempted enter dwelling with intent, enter premises and commit indictable offence, failure to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe, failure to appear, obstruct police, possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons and unlawful use of motor vehicles.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today (Thursday March 16).
