Police update: Wounding, Kirra

Police investigating the wounding of a 34-year-old woman at Kirra in the early hours of this morning have charged a man.

Around 5.20am, the woman was walking on the beach side of Marine Parade. When near the intersection with Powell Crescent, an unknown man allegedly walked up to the woman and attempted grab her.

The woman resisted, at which point she allegedly sustained a 6cm laceration to her left forearm.

The man allegedly fled the scene but was later located on the beachfront at Coolangatta.

The woman was transported to Robina Hospital for treatment to a non-life-threatening injury to her forearm.

A 20-year-old man from New South Wales has been charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, one count of wounding and possession of a knife in a public place.

He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on September 21.
