Pop-ups help Hervey Bay seniors with cost of living

The Palaszczuk Government's Seniors Savings pop-ups will visit Hervey Bay today and tomorrow (February 13 and 14) to help over 22,000 seniors living on the Fraser Coast learn more about the benefits of Queensland's Seniors Card and concessions.

Minister for Seniors Coralee O'Rourke said the Seniors Savings team would be at the Stockland Shopping Centre to provide information about concessions and assist local seniors to sign up to the popular Queensland Seniors Card Scheme.

"We want to ensure that seniors in the Fraser Coast area, and right across Queensland, are reaping the benefits of the concessions and discounts that they are entitled to," Mrs O'Rourke said.

"The Queensland Seniors Card helps ease the cost of living for seniors through concessions on electricity, medical aids, public transport and vehicle registration."

Since the resounding success of the first pop-up at this year's Ekka, the Seniors Savings team has visited Forest Lake, Ipswich, Mount Gravatt, Chermside, Springfield, Capalaba, North Lakes, Morayfield, Townsville, the Gold Coast, Logan and Toowoomba.

"We've had more than 3300 seniors visit these pop-ups, seeking more information about the services and supports we provide and how they can access them," Mrs O'Rourke said.

"Over the coming months, the Seniors Savings team will continue to visit a number of Queensland communities.

"I encourage older Queenslanders to stop by and have a chat with the team when the pop-up is in their local area."

Mrs O'Rourke said Seniors Savings pop-ups formed part of the Queensland Government's commitment to creating thriving, age-friendly communities.

"We want Queenslanders, regardless of their age or personal circumstances, to be able to participate and be included in their communities, be resilient and enjoy social and economic wellbeing," she said.

More local shopping centres in Bundaberg, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Cairns and Mount Isa will be visited in the next few months.

By the end of May 2020, in addition to the Ekka, the Seniors Savings team will have visited a total of 24 locations across the state, from Cairns to the Gold Coast.
