Population growth delivering our plan for strong economy

Michael Ferguson, Acting Premier

The Rockliff Liberal Government is building a strong economy and a caring community that entices people from across the country here to live, work, and raise a family.

A growing population is a key part of our plan to build Tasmania's future as we need more working age people to grow the economy, which is why we welcome the Centre for Population's statement showing Tasmania's population is expected to grow to 647,000 by 2032-33.

Acting Premier Michael Ferguson said this is another indication that our plan is working.

"When we came to Government in 2014 people were leaving the State in droves, thanks to the disastrous job-destroying policies of the Labor-Green Government," the Acting Premier said

"We have turned the ship around and now it's the complete opposite, thanks to our long-term plan to build Tasmania's future.

"It's also clear that people are moving here and finding work in our strong economy, with a record 290,000 Tasmanians employed, and the highest participation rate on record of 62.9 per cent.

"More people living and working here means more money going into our economy, which pays for the essential services Tasmanians deserve, in the areas they care about.

"We will continue to implement our plan to build our population, create jobs and grow our economy as we work to strengthen Tasmania's future."
