Port Kembla Pool receives artistic flair - Wollongong

Heading to Port Kembla Pool this spring? Keep an eye out for the new mural panels installed along the pool side!

Created by Illawarra based, proud Gunai Woman and award-winning multidisciplinary artist, Kirli Saunders (OAM), the new public artwork brings a pop of colour to one of Wollongong's most popular public swimming pools.

Artist Kirli Saunders said that the mural is titled 'Garrigarran' and connects to Country. honouring yesterday today and tomorrow on Dharawhal lands.

"The multilayered digital prints on aluminium feature a range of shellfish, a local saltwater source of nourishment. 'Garrigarran' welcomes the audience to ground themselves by the sea and to gather with family and community, as local First Nations peoples have here for all times. It welcomes families and community to care for Country, like she cares for us," said Ms Saunders.

As part of the process of making the mural, Kirli yarned with the Aunties at the Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Corporation
