Port River Expressway open after fatal crash, SA

A woman has died following a crash at Gillman last night, according to SA Police.

Just after 7pm, Tuesday 1 August, police and emergency services were called to the Port River Expressway after a Mazda hatchback, a Nissan utility and a Mazda sedan crashed.

The driver of the Mazda hatchback, a 77-year-old woman from Osborne, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition but has sadly died. Her passenger, a 79-year-old woman from Glenside, was also taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan utility received minor injuries and was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital. The driver and sole occupant of the Mazda sedan was uninjured but taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital to be medically assessed.

Port River Expressway was closed for eastbound traffic for several hours while Major Crash Officers Investigated the circumstances of the crash.

The lady's death takes the State's road toll to 54 compared to 47 for the same time last year.
