Dr Mike Rayner, Head of the School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences, has been appointed a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) by Advance HE.
The Principal Fellowship recognises those who have made a sustained and effective impact at a strategic level in higher education, both within and beyond their institution.
Mike was awarded his Principal Fellowship in recognition of his work in:
- Transformational leadership in global curriculum design, including the creation of a pioneering Dual Degrees in Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences , and Global Sport Management with Edith Cowan University
- Driving change through inclusive and industry-focused education strategies that have improved graduate outcomes and widened access
- Championing entrepreneurial education and embedding innovation across curricula, resulting in increased student start-ups and national recognition
- Establishing strategic global partnerships, student mobility pathways, and inclusive learning models that have impacted policy and practice across multiple institutions worldwide
Mike said: "It's an honour to be recognised as a Principal Fellow. This award reflects not only my work but the incredible dedication and creativity of colleagues across the institution and around the world.
"My approach to leadership has always been rooted in values, focusing on inclusion, co-creation, and empowering staff and students to lead change. Whether it's redesigning curricula to reflect global realities, expanding access to international experiences, or supporting colleagues through change, my goal has been to build sustainable systems that help others thrive. Higher education has a critical role to play in addressing global challenges.
