Four positions on South Australia's peak recreational fishing advisory council are now open for nominations with an online election to be held to fill the vacancies.
Guided by an independent chair, the Minister's Recreational Fishing Advisory Council (MRFAC) provides direct feedback and advice to the State Government on recreational fishing development, initiatives and policies.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham encouraged anyone who is passionate about recreational fishing and is willing to make a difference to put their name forward.
"Nominations are now open to fill these important representative positions on the Minister's Recreational Fishing Advisory Council," Minister Basham said.
"The MRFAC plays a vital role in helping to shape South Australia's recreational fishing future, representing fishers and providing advice to the State Government in all matters that relate to recreational fishing and I'd encourage anyone with an interest to put their hand up.
"Fishing plays a critical role in the economic and social fabric of South Australia and the Marshall Liberal Government wants to maximise opportunities for the hundreds of thousands of recreational fishers across the state.
"We know that when people fish there are significant economic benefits because people often stay in regional communities, visit the local tackle shop and eat at local restaurants, which all support jobs.
"The council plays an important role in the discussion about recreational fishing and we are looking for people who are prepared to act in the best interests of the fishery as a whole rather than as an advocate for any particular organisation, interest group or regional concern."

Minister Basham said to ensure continuity of the MRFAC, four positions would be filled through the election process now, and five positions would be up for election in 2022.
Nominations for the unpaid positions, one of which is for a representative of the South East of South Australia, are now open and all South Australian recreational fishers with an interest in the future management of the fishery are encouraged to apply.
The nomination and election process will be run via the YourSAy platform, consistent with the inaugural elections held in 2019. Following the nomination period, candidates will be reviewed to ensure they meet selection criteria, and then eligible candidates will be put forward for a public vote.
