Positive Futures Expo Opens Inclusive Doors To Community

Positive Futures Expo opens inclusive doors to community
This year's Positive Futures Expo is just around the corner, so don't miss out on the fun!

An innovative expo bringing together representatives from different industries - all under the one roof - showcasing career and education pathways for young people living with disability is being held at Playford Civic Centre on 28 May.

Attendees will get a chance to talk to companies and education providers on the spot and get a feel for potential career paths that may be available to them. The expo also attracts high school groups from the northern suburbs and further afield across the Adelaide region.

A series of workshops will also happen over the day, including Transition to Work facilitated by Access 4 U, Write on - Using AI to Smash your Resume facilitated by Workskill and Steps to Employment facilitated by Feros Care. All workshops are free entry and open to all attendees.

About 65 stallholders are involved in the expo this year, with Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty explaining that the event always represents a huge range of providers from the disability industry.

About eight per cent of people in Playford live with disability and Mayor Docherty believes workforce participation is fundamental to improve social inclusion and wellbeing.

"It provides economic independence and choice, social connections and friendships, value, identity and belonging. People with disability require equitable access to work, traineeship and volunteering opportunities within the City of Playford," Mayor Docherty said.

"Our goal for this area is for people with disability to have access to education, employment and other opportunities to contribute and participate in community life. Also alongside this, for employers to have the opportunity to connect with people with disability and the valuable skills, perspectives and experiences they can bring to a role.

"Council recognises that to deliver these opportunities, it requires engaging with the community, particularly people with disabilities and employers."

Volunteerability - Orana Australia Limited, Minda, Empowering Everyday Support Adelaide, Integrated Clinical Support, Plan Tracker, Senami Counselling and Psychotherapy Services and Barkuma are just a handful of the many stallholders who will welcome the community through the doors this year.

The inaugural Interview Glow-Up Zone also invites attendees to step in and shine! Be sure to check it out to get free skincare and grooming touch-ups, and a professional headshot. Attendees will find everything they need to look and feel job-ready in this amazing space.

A Sensory Space will also be available to attendees to help provide a safe and comfortable environment to enjoy the event.
