Financial Crimes Squad detectives have charged three men, including a postal service employee, for allegedly stealing bank cards from a mail delivery network and on-supplying them to organised criminals under Strike Force Rubi.
Strike Force Rubi was established by State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad in November 2024, with assistance from Australia Post, to investigate a postal service employee allegedly stealing bank cards from the mail in Edgecliff, Woollahra and Double Bay in Sydney's East.
It will be further alleged the 56-year-old man was then involved in the on-supply of these stolen bank cards to two separate organised crime syndicates involved in fraud offences in the Rockdale area.
It is estimated the cards were used for more than $1.4 million worth of fraud.
Following extensive inquiries, from about 4am on Wednesday 20 August 2025, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed five search warrants in Rockdale and Roselands.
During the warrants, police located and seized more than $14,000 in cash, a DECCD, electronics, stolen bank cards, a taser, and luxury items including watches, handbags and jewellery.
At one Rockdale address, police arrested a 56-year-old man. He was taken to Kogarah Police Station, where he was charged with 143 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, appropriate article in course of post relating to 70 pieces of mail, and participate in a criminal group.
At another address in Rockdale, police arrested a 35-year-old man. He was taken to Kogarah Police Station, where he was charged with 14 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, 50 counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, receive stolen mail-receptacles/articles/postal messages, possess prohibited drug and participate in a criminal group.
Both men were refused bail and appeared in Sutherland Local Court yesterday (Thursday 21 August 2025).
In Roselands, police arrested a 27-year-old man. He was taken to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with 76 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, three attempt to dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
He was refused bail and appeared in Bankstown Local Court yesterday.
Investigations under Strike Force Rubi continue, with more arrests and charges expected.
