Pothole Crew Headed To Disaster Hit Northern NSW

A Council pothole crew is headed to the NSW Mid North Coast to help with the recovery effort following the devastating floods of May 2025.

In all too familiar scenes for the Shoalhaven, Council wrote to 16 local government areas hit hardest by the extreme weather to offer support, with Mid Coast Council General Manager, Adrian Panuccio, accepting Shoalhaven Council's offer.

Mayor Patricia White said it was important for local councils to support each other during times of adversity.

"Since 2019, the Shoalhaven has experienced 15 natural disasters, so we really understand the devastating impact this has on the community and infrastructure," Cr White said.

"Every little bit counts and three of our experienced road crew will take Council plant and equipment and spend the week supporting Mid Coast with road repairs," she said.

"Our staff are also locals who have been impacted by natural disasters, and this experience means we can't just sit by and watch communities struggle to recover. We want and need to take action."

Council crew will leave this Sunday 14 September for Taree, about 60km south of Port Macquarie and one of the worst- affected flood areas. The three workers will be based in Taree for the week at an estimated cost to Shoalhaven Council of around $13,000.

The Mid Coast Council estimates they have $257 million in road repairs, $115 million in lost community infrastructure and $7 million in damaged water and sewer infrastructure. Since May, they have partnered with the local community and removed 4,000 tonnes of waste debris and while committed to getting on with the job, they are keen for support.

Council will always be grateful to Shellharbour City Council who volunteered their road crew for a week to help repair roads following the severe weather events of 2022.
