Potts Point stabbing update, NSW

Investigations are underway after a man was slashed with a knife during an argument at Potts Point this morning, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to Orwell Street, Potts Point, about 3.30am (Sunday 21 October 2018), and found a 27-year-old man with slash wounds to wounds to his back, face, shoulders and arms.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Police have been told while the injuries are not considered life-threatening, he will need to undergo surgery.

A crime scene was established by officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command (PAC), and inquiries have been initiated to locate the person responsible.

Witnesses told police the injured man was involved in an argument with another man – who is known to him – before being attacked.

Investigators spoke with the injured man a short time ago, and believe that, while he is not a tourist, he may have been staying at a nearby backpacker’s hostel.

Police are now looking for a 37-year-old man they believe can assist with this investigation.

Several lines of inquiry are now being followed up to locate this person.

No weapon has yet been found.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
