Power outage leads to cannabis seizure

A suspected illegal electricity bypass, identified as a power outage in the McKinnon area, has led to police seizing a cannabis crop.

Detectives say a power company contacted police after noticing unusual electrical activity at a Chalmers Street property.

The Caulfield Divisional Response Unit and uniform members searched a house at 9.30am this morning (12/11/19) and found 87 cannabis plants growing in several rooms of the unoccupied property.

Police are encouraging the community to report suspicious activity at properties which may house clandestine drug set-ups.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the McKinnon drug crop find and are appealing for anyone who has information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
