Power tools spark blaze despite Total Fire Ban - Marsden Park

A man has been charged after power tools he was using allegedly sparked a fire at Marsden Park earlier today.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to South Street about 2pm (Sunday 5 January 2020), after bush and grassland caught alight, destroying almost 25ha.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze without loss of property or injury.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command were called to the scene and, following inquiries, a 54-year-old man was spoken to about his use of a grinder and welder outside despite a Total Fire Ban being in place.

That man has now been issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for failing to comply with Total Fire Ban order. He is due to appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 19 February 2020.
