Pre-season winter sports Come-n-Try afternoon for kids

Local kids will test-drive a range of sports for free at Noosa Council’s Come ‘N Try sports afternoon on Tuesday 18 February.

The fields at Noosa District Sports Complex in Tewantin will come alive at 3.30pm as local sporting groups showcase their activities including soccer, softball, orienteering, rugby union, AFL, NRL and gymnastics for hundreds of local kids.

Community Development Manager Alison Hamblin said the afternoon is popular for many reasons.

“It’s a great afternoon out and a good opportunity for kids to experiment with different sports, in a fun, free and non-competitive environment.

“Children are grouped into year levels and move from sport to sport, trying, learning and seeing what they like without the pressure of having to sign up for a season first.

“The kids have a little healthy snack before they start, and then they try all the different sports on offer over the two hours,” she said.

The Come ‘N Try sports day is for primary school aged children, with last September’s event drawing in more than 100 kids.

“It’s a great way for kids to try sports they haven’t been exposed to before and for parents to, watch the kids engage in different activities and speak with local coaches

“It’s also great for our local sporting groups who get a few extra signups just in time for the winter season.”
