Sunshine Coast Council

With the Bureau of Meteorology warning of more storms expected to hit the Sunshine Coast, NOW is the time to prepare!

What you should do:

  • Clear your gardens of storm debris.
  • Ensure garden furniture and tools, and pool equipment are secure.
  • Park your car under cover.
  • Secure your pets.
  • Stay alert, monitor warnings and have your emergency plan ready!

Call SES if:

  • Your roof is damaged or leaking significantly.
  • A tree has fallen and caused structural damage or is blocking access to your home.
  • Your house is flooded or about to flood.
  • You need temporary emergency repairs that you cannot safely do yourself.
  • You require sandbagging or help pumping out floodwater.
  • You need assistance with fallen trees on homes or vehicle.

Fallen power lines:

Stay at least 10 metres away from the fallen powerline and warn others. Always assume it is live and dangerous.

Call immediately:

  • Triple Zero (000) if it's a life-threatening emergency.
  • Energex Emergency Line: 13 19 62 (available 24/7) for fallen powerlines or electric shocks.
  • Do NOT touch the powerline or anything in contact with it.
  • Wait for Energex crews to arrive and make the area safe.

Three Simple Steps to Get Ready

1. Understand Your Risk

Know what hazards could affect you. Check local flood maps and storm warnings.

2. Make a Household Emergency Plan

Ensure everyone knows what to do and who to contact in an emergency.

3. Pack an Emergency Kit

Have essentials ready in case you lose power or become cut off by floodwaters or fallen trees.
