The $817.2 million Department of Primary Industries Budget lays the foundation for a fresh start by ensuring the long-term future for traditional primary industries that have been a key pillar in our State's economic prosperity.

The Budget will help boost Queensland's primary production output to $30 billion by 2030, with a 25-year Primary Industries Prosper 2050 blueprint co-designed, co-delivered and benefitting from co-investment with industry as the centrepiece.

The Blueprint includes five-year action plans to drive investment, create jobs, and unlock opportunities for the sector, supported by a $30 million Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund.

This Budget marks the end of primary producers being left high and dry by Labor's neglect, as the Crisafulli Government invests to support primary industries to thrive.

This budget also delivers landmark funding to boost biosecurity with the first of 100 new biosecurity officers across the State.

Other key initiatives include:

  • $60.9 million over five years to turbocharge Queensland's biosecurity efforts, including 100 additional frontline officers at biosecurity hotspots and with regionally-focused action plans to manage invasive species, including feral pigs and varroa mite.
  • $51.9 million over four years to support the Farm Business Resilience Program, Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program and Drought Preparedness Grants.
  • $24 million over two years to deliver Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce aerial suppression activities to significantly reduce fire ant densities.

  • $3.3 million to replace or upgrade vessels and marine equipment for fisheries officers to support industry.

  • $6.4 million for the Gatton Research Facility, Redlands Research Centre, and the Emerald Smart Cropping Centre to support extension, research, technology, and development.

Treasurer David Janetzki said the 2025-26 Budget was about delivering for Queensland with a better lifestyle through a stronger economy.

"We promised a fresh start for Queensland and that's exactly what this Budget delivers," Treasurer Janetzki said.

"After crises in youth crime, health, housing and cost of living, this Budget delivers the foundations for a better lifestyle through a stronger economy."

Minister for Primary Industries Tony Perrett said the Crisafulli Government was delivering better biosecurity and more invasive species management to grow Queensland's primary industries.

"For the first time in a decade Queensland's primary industries are being delivered a Budget that focuses on what they need to enable them to produce world class food, fibre and foliage for Queenslanders and the world," Minister Perrett said.

"We are backing primary industries by beefing up biosecurity by delivering the first of 100 additional officers across the regions with a focus on biosecurity hotspots.

"We've made industry-changing progress over the last six months by conducting the largest stakeholder engagement exercise in at least the last decade; 2025-2026 will see Primary Industries Prosper 2050 supported by a new $30 million Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund.

"Under Labor investment into research, development and education for primary industries was in decline, and exacerbated by their cruel decision to close down and sell off Agricultural Colleges in rural and regional Queensland."
