Primary school child struck by vehicle, East Devonport

At 3.15pm today a primary school child was struck by a slow-moving vehicle as they exited their bus in East Devonport.

The child suffered minor injuries and was transported by Ambulance to hospital as a precaution only. Contributing to this fortunate result of only minor injuries was the attention of the driver of the vehicle, who cautiously slowed as they passed the bus.

This incident is a sobering reminder to all motorists to always be vigilant when passing busses that are stationary, picking up or dropping off passengers and to slow down as a precaution.

Tasmania Police would like to remind passengers of all ages to ensure their bus has departed the stop before attempting to cross the road.
