A man has been arrested after a private paramedic sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a car at in Sydney's west today.
About 3.15pm (Saturday 5 September 2020), emergency services were called to a raceway at Eastern Creek following reports a man had been injured after being hit by a car that had left the scene.
Police allege, a 44-year-old man become involved in an altercation with a woman when the 54-year-old paramedic attempted to intervene. It is further alleged the younger man entered his Ford sedan and drove towards the older man.
The injured man was carried on the bonnet for about 40 metres before falling to the ground. He was treated at the scene for serious leg and head injuries and taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A crime scene was established and police from Blacktown Police Area Command and the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
About 4.20pm police from the Ryde Traffic and Highway Command located the Ford sedan travelling on Station Road, Seven Hills and attempted to pull the car over. The driver fled the scene and police engaged in a pursuit which was terminated a short time later due to his manner of driving.
Polair assisted in the search for the vehicle, which was located, and followed into Distribution Road at Seven Hills.
Police from Ryde Traffic and Highway Command and the Blacktown Police Area Command attended and the man was arrested following a short foot pursuit.
He was arrested and taken to Blacktown Hospital and remains under police guard.
Investigations are ongoing.
