Privatisation Pete cannot be allowed to sell TAFE

Tasmanian Labor
  • Courses lost, campuses closed under the Liberals
  • Peter Gutwein's privatisation agenda on full show
  • Only Labor will rebuild TAFE
  • Tasmanian Labor is committed to rebuilding TAFE from the ground up by investing in more teachers, improved regional delivery and an enhanced connection with industry.

Labor Leader Rebecca White said Labor's plan would make TAFE free in areas of skill shortages and support 20,000 Tasmanians to get a foot in the door to a good job.

"Labor's clear plan to rebuild TAFE is in stark contrast to the Liberals privatisation plan," Ms White said.

"Peter Gutwein continues to push his party's privatisation agenda onto TAFE, along with failing to rule out the sale of key Hydro Tasmania assets.

"Peter Gutwein hasn't been able to lift a finger to save the 50 jobs that have been axed from Hydro, which makes his recent announcements about employing more TAFE teachers empty and dishonest, as he knows full well he cannot make a privatised TAFE do anything that he has promised.

"While privatisation Pete pushes forward with his TAFE privatisation agenda, Labor has a plan to rebuild."

Ms White said that the Liberals privatisation plan would force TAFE to drive up course fees under a full cost recovery model.

"The Liberals have consistently undermined TAFE for seven years and are trying to blow it up.

"Labor will increase the TAFE teaching workforce by nearly 20 per cent, support current TAFE teachers to spend time in the trades they teach and enhance regional delivery.

"Only Labor is working for Tasmanians to rebuild TAFE, while the Liberals will tear it up and privatise it."
