The Albanese Government has taken a step forward in delivering a new 16-bed Residential Aged Care (RAC) facility for the Norfolk Island community, with the selection of a managing contractor to progress the project's design and construction.
Australian-based construction company Reeves International Pty Ltd (Reeves) will deliver these important works following a tender process conducted earlier this year.
Reeves specialises in delivering projects in challenging and remote locations, including a wide range of government public infrastructure projects.
In leading the project, Reeves will work closely with key stakeholders including the Norfolk Island community to advance the facility's design. This process will support parliamentary approvals needed to proceed to the construction phase.
The new RAC facility will enable more Norfolk Island residents to age on island with dignity and access to high-quality care. Located on the existing Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service site, this important project not only provides independence, safety and security for residents, but allows for an expansion in the number of local aged care beds.
The government is also progressing the development application (DA) process for the RAC through the Norfolk Island Regional Council. This important step, which includes a public exhibition process, ensures the project continues to meet environmental and community needs and requirements.
Construction of the new RAC facility is expected to commence in 2026, subject to parliamentary approval processes.
