In partnership with the Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, the Australian Institute of Criminology today awarded thirteen Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards to police and community-led projects across the nation.
The Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards are a joint initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments, coordinated by the AIC and co-sponsored by the Ministerial Council for Police and Emergency Management.
These annual awards recognise the outstanding contributions being made across Australia for crime prevention, including the development and implementation of practical projects to reduce violence and other types of crime in the community.
Australian Institute of Criminology Director, Mr Michael Phelan APM, said these awards encourage the implementation and sustainability of effective, innovative and efficient crime prevention programs, significantly contributing to stopping crime and making Australia safer.
"Thirteen projects across the country have been recognised for their role in protecting our communities and enhancing our national response to crime and violence prevention," he said.
"These high quality projects have demonstrated sustainable project outcomes and, in many cases, have the ability to be implemented elsewhere.
"The Australian Crime and Violence Awards provide a valuable service to government by identifying practical projects that are reducing harm to the community, and raising community awareness of crime and violence.
"I congratulate the winners of the 2019 Awards, and encourage other community and police-led projects across the country to consider nominating their project for recognition in 2020," Mr Phelan said.

- Bronze: Doors Wide Open Inc (WA)
- Bronze: Wyndham City's Ready Steady Together Partnership (Vic)

- Gold: Queensland Police Service's First Drinks: First Impressions. Harm Reduction Through Police Engagement Project (Qld)
- Silver: Victoria Police's Hume Crime Investigation Unit Crime Reduction Team (Burglary Crew) (Vic)
- Bronze: Queensland Police Service's Assault Free Zone (Qld)
- Bronze: Queensland Police Service's Community Against Substance Abuse Project (Qld)
