Prosecutor appointed to District Court

Respected prosecutor Ian Press SC has been appointed to South Australia's District Court.

Attorney-General, Vickie Chapman said Mr Press would commence work on January 20, shortly before the retirement of Judge Sydney Tilmouth in February next year.

"With more than 30 years' experience in the law, Ian Press is an outstanding appointment to the District Court." Ms Chapman said.

"Within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he has served as a Managing Prosecutor, a Deputy Director, and most recently as Chief Counsel for Appeals.

"Previously, in his time with the Legal Services Commission, he worked in the Commission's criminal practice, War Crimes Unit, and as a Duty Solicitor."

Attorney-General Chapman wished outgoing Judge Sydney Tilmouth well in his retirement.

"Judge Tilmouth has served on the District Court since 2005 and I thank him for his dedication and his work during this time," Ms Chapman said.
