Protecting Animals: Animal Welfare Grants

The Territory Government is ensuring our animals are well looked after with seven organisations receiving a share of $100,000 in grant funding to deliver programs and services that support animal welfare initiatives.

The Animal Welfare Fund is delivered each year to assist organisations undertake projects that improve animal wellbeing, raise community awareness of animal welfare responsibilities and help promote and improve animal management practices, particularly in remote communities.

Animal Welfare Grant Program 2020-21 Grant Recipients and projects include:

  • Alice Springs Town Council on behalf of the Alice Springs Animal Shelter received $7,938 to upgrade the shelter and provide better care for animals.
  • Animal Management in Rural & Remote Indigenous Communities (AMRRIC) received $49,799 to undertake strategic companion animal management through census data collection and education.
  • Ark Aid Incorporated received $8,892 to continue to provide First Aid for Wildlife including educational training.
  • Friends of Nina's Ark received $11,720 to create a flight aviary to house larger birds.
  • Roper Gulf Regional Council received $8,800 to undertake Baby Animals Belong in the Bush Communications Project including language and education materials for communities, in partnership with AMRRIC.
  • RSPCA Darwin Regional Branch Inc received $10,000 towards an Animal Welfare School Education Program to Territory schools; and
  • Wildcare Incorporated received $2,851 for a Strike Prevention in Katherine project to prevent frequency of wildlife from being caught on barbed wire fences.
