Protecting Port Arthur's World Heritage Site

The Australian Government is investing $8.9 million to protect the Port Arthur Historic Site in Tasmania.

This funding will help conserve one of Australia's most important World Heritage places.

The works will:

  • repair and maintain the famous Penitentiary building
  • improve visitor facilities
  • keep the site safe for future generations.

The investment includes:

  • $6.7 million for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades
  • $2.2 million for better visitor experiences.

These projects are part of the Local Environmental Projects Program. The program helps communities care for nature and protect our heritage.
