Residents and businesses are invited to have their say on Mornington Peninsula Shire's Draft Rye Urban Design Guidelines.
Mornington Peninsula Shire is reviewing the existing conditions of the Rye commercial centre and north of Collingwood Street, and has developed draft Urban Design Guidelines to provide clear design guidance for future development of private land within the Rye commercial core and north of Collingwood Street.
The draft Guidelines, depending on which alternative is preferred, will not only protect the low scale coastal character of Rye but will also result in stronger building design controls for the township's commercial centre, such as heights, setbacks, materials and other design details.
Two options are being considered for the built form controls in Rye and Council would like your input as to which option you prefer.
Nepean Ward Councillor Hugh Fraser said these Guidelines provide a way forward in preserving and protecting the township of Rye.
"This is part of our broader strategy to support future design and development in the area, while looking after and enhancing Rye's existing culture and environmental identity".
Nepean Ward Councillor Bryan Payne encourages members of the community to have their say.
"We want to ensure Rye's characteristics are preserved by strengthening building design controls to have high quality architecture and low scale coastal features – use this opportunity to provide your thoughts on how you want to see Rye in the future".
