Providing better healthcare in regional Victoria with $6.5 million upgrade to Cobden Health

Liberal Party Victoria

Aged care residents in Cobden will have a modern, fit-for-purpose place to callhome with a commitment of up to $6.5 million dollars towards the upgrade to Cobden Health's aged care facility.

Following the Cobden Health 2020 strategic plan, which identifies the need to redevelop the Cobden Health Aged Care facility, an elected Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit to the first stage rebuild of the facility.

It will specialise in helping all residents enjoy a better life, with stage one of the redevelopment to deliver 20 specialised beds for those with dementia. With future stage funding, Cobden Health would be able to support up to 80 residents; 60 aged care beds and 20 beds for specialised management.

Liberal Leader, Matthew Guy, said the commitment forms part of the Liberals and Nationals' plan to fix the health crisis in Victoria.

"Every Victorian deserves access to the best healthcare, and this commitment will deliver a much-needed upgrade to the facilities at Cobden Health," Mr Guy said.

"Cobden Health has provided an important service to its community over many decades, and it's about time it received the support it needs and deserves."

Member for Polwarth, Richard Riordan, said the funding will keep aged care residents close to family and support networks.

"Cobden is a community owned not-for-profit organisation that has provided community care since 1957 but has been neglected by the Andrew Labor Government," Mr Riordan said.

"The Cobden community deserves top quality aged care facilities to properly look after its elderly residents, and these upgrades are critical in meeting the rising demand for Aged Care in the region.

"The State has a responsibility to ensure people can age safely and appropriately in their own local communities, so that they can be near to family and friends."

Cobden Health Board Chair Duncan Morris welcomed the $6.5 million commitment.

"Cobden Health has been planning for some time to modernise and improve its Aged Care facilities."

"The support shown by this commitment gives our volunteer board the confidence to continue to keep planning for the future of Cobden."
