PSPA declared – factory fire in Virginia, QLD

Police have declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act in Virginia this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

A PSPA was declared at 4.10pm and police have established an exclusion zone bordering Sandgate Road, Pritchard Road and Newton Street and a thoroughfare between Newton Street and Sandgate Road.

The fire continues to burn and due to the toxic nature of the smoke residents in the area are being asked to remain in doors and close windows.

Sandgate Road remains open however police are requesting motorists to avoid the area if possible due to a build-up of traffic.
