Public art to make Light fall on Strand

A new public piece of art is set to illuminate The Strand with the installation of the sculpture beginning this week.

Light falls created by Robbie Rowlands was commissioned by Townsville City Council for 2017 Strand Ephemera and is now becoming a permanent installation in its original location.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said Light falls is a striking artwork that complements The Strand's atmosphere.

"Light falls was a fantastic addition to the Strand Ephemera back in 2017 and Council staff have been working with the artist and electricians to make this a permanent installation," Cr Doyle said.

"The way the light pole falls gracefully across the pathway and illuminates The Strand is quite beautiful and unique, I'm glad we were able to have it on display again.

"I'm thrilled that it will be there permanently for residents and visitors to enjoy."

The installation of the artwork will begin today, and the sculpture is expected to be fully functional by the end of January.
