Greater Geelong residents are invited to join a community reference group to inform one of the City's funding models for civil infrastructure upgrades.
Participation in the group involves attending a two-and-a-half hour meeting in August 2025, where participants can provide their views on Special Rate and Charge (SRC) schemes.
SRC schemes are a collaborative funding approach that shares the cost of infrastructure upgrades between the City and the localised community groups who benefit directly from them.
The schemes are typically used in older neighbourhoods where infrastructure such as footpaths and sealed roads were not provided when constructed by developers, as seen in new developments today.
The City can deliver these localised infrastructure improvements faster using this approach, as Council funding is primarily invested in broader infrastructure opportunities, leading to enhanced local areas.
Applications are now open, and close at 5pm Monday 26 May 2025, with applicants being shortlisted by the end of June.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM:
If you live or own property in Greater Geelong, we want to hear what you have to say about Special Rate and Charge schemes. These schemes allow us to make real improvements to local communities, but it's so important that we get our approach to them right, which is why we're convening this community reference group.
Chair of the City Services, Capital Works, Parks and Gardens portfolio Councillor Trent Sullivan:
Some of the older developments of Greater Geelong have considerable infrastructure needs, such as sealed roads, footpaths, kerbs and channels, and stormwater drains.By enabling contributions from both the City and those who directly benefit, we're able to get on with the job of enhancing our neighbourhoods faster.
