Public safety declaration, Townsville

Police have made a declaration under Public Safety Preservation Act today in Townsville.

At 2:50pm police declared the area unsafe due a building becoming unstable.

As a result of the declaration the following roads are closed to all vehicles and pedestrian traffic: Sturt Street, Stokes Street, Walker Street and Denham Street.

Police expect the declaration to remain in place until the morning.

It is anticipated the following changes to the road closures will occur:

Denim Street is expected to open and there will be a no right turn into Walker Street.

Stoke Street is expected to open, and it will be down to one lane only.

Sturt Street is expected to open.

Walker Street will remain closed which will impact business in Walker Street.

The Courthouse is expected to be open.

Police and emergency services are asking members of the public to avoid the area.
