Public Trustee helping more vulnerable Tasmanians

The Hodgman Majority Liberal Government is committed to supporting vulnerable Tasmanians and protecting those most in need.

An important part of the Public Trustee’s work is the management of the financial affairs of those Represented Persons under an order of the Guardianship and Administration Board.

As at June 30 this year, the Public Trustee also managed the affairs of 784 Community Service Obligation Represented Person clients, which is an increase of 102 clients compared with the previous year.

This is an important service for vulnerable Tasmanians in need of support.

It is a testament to the professionalism of the Public Trustee that they were able to deliver this support, while also returning a strong profit after tax of $772,000.

Though not strictly a matter for the Public Trustee, the issue of elder abuse was raised in hearings today. Elder abuse in any form is not okay and importantly, the Government has committed to provide funding of $150,000 per annum over three years to continue the Elder Abuse Prevention Strategy.

We are also working closely with all States and Territories to develop the National Plan to respond to the Abuse of Older Australians.
