Public warned after elderly woman scammed of life savings at Dubbo

Police are urging the public to remain vigilant of fraudulent behaviour after an elderly woman was scammed of her life savings in the state’s Orana Region.

Between 5pm on Thursday (26 September 2019) and Saturday (28 September 2019), the Dubbo resident received multiple phone calls from a person claiming to be the representative of a computer security organisation trusted to the woman.

As a result of multiple phone calls, the person was allowed access to the woman’s computer under the precedent a software update would be conducted.

About 12pm on Sunday (29 September 2019), the woman contacted police after noticing a sum of funds had been withdrawn from her bank account without her knowledge.

Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District commenced an investigation into the offence.
