Pursuit after checkpoint ends in arrest, South Australia

A woman has been arrested after allegedly breaching COVID directions.

About 1.50am on Thursday 12 August, a silver Ford Laser sedan approached the Yamba border checkpoint on Sturt Highway. Patrols attempted to stop the driver however she failed to do so and continued driving west on the highway.

Police pursued the sedan as it turned onto Old Sturt Highway heading towards Berri. The woman eventually stopped driving on Old Sturt Highway at Monash where she arrested without further incident.

A 33-year-old woman from no fixed address was charged with breaching the Emergency Management Act, engaging in a police pursuit, breaching her bail conditions, driving unlicensed and driving an unregistered vehicle. She was refused police bail and will appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on Monday 12 August. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.
