QLD Man Charged for Knife in Brisbane Airport Luggage

A Queensland man is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today (30 January, 2026) charged with allegedly possessing a large knife in his carry-on luggage at Brisbane Domestic Airport.

The AFP charged the man, 49, after the incident on 10 December, 2025.

He was stopped by airport security staff when they allegedly found a large knife in his bag at a screening point and alerted the AFP.

When AFP officers attended the screening point, the man allegedly became aggressive and resisted arrest before being detained.

The man was charged with:

  • One count of carrying a weapon through a screening point, contrary to section 47 of the Aviation Transport Security Act (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is seven years' imprisonment;

  • One count of obstruct Commonwealth official, contrary to section 149.1 of the Criminal Code (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is two years' imprisonment; and

  • One count of public nuisance, contrary to section 6 of the Summary Offences Act 2005 (QLD). The maximum penalty for this offence is six months' imprisonment.

AFP Detective Superintendent Anthony Conway said the AFP worked closely with airport partners to ensure the safety of visitors and staff at the precinct.

"Brisbane Airport's screening processes are strict for a reason and there is a zero-tolerance policy to anyone attempting to take prohibited items on a flight," Det Supt Conway said.

"During this incident, airport security and the AFP worked together to prevent a potential threat to the travelling public and workers."
