The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has been invited to work with the State Government through a newly established Ministerial Energy Council to secure the State's future energy needs.
QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane today welcomed the Palaszczuk Government's plan to collaborate with industry, consumer and employee representatives through the Council.
Mr Macfarlane said as Queensland's peak body for coal, metal and gas explorers and producers, the QRC was looking forward to working closely with the Government on the full range of resource and energy policies, including the growth of renewables.
"The Queensland resources sector is delivering the State's energy mix of coal, gas and renewables, including government-owned coal, gas and renewable generation," he said.
"Due to our rich reserves of metallurgical coal and metals, our sector holds the key to the development of renewable energy projects in Australia and overseas including the development of battery and electric vehicle (EV) technologies.
"Our member companies are also at the forefront of the development of hydrogen.
"The establishment of a state-based Ministerial Energy Council provides the resources industry with an opportunity to engage with the Government and other stakeholders in the critical area of energy policy to ensure settings and regulation are targeted and effective."
