The Queensland Resources Council has welcomed the appointment of new senior Ministers and looks forward to continuing to work with them, in their new roles, to maximise the role of the resources industry in the State's COVID-19 recovery.
QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's announcement of the appointment of Cameron Dick as Treasurer and Kate Jones as State Development Minister would be welcomed by the industry.
"Both Ministers, Cameron Dick and Kate Jones, have long recognised the role of the resources sector to Queensland. We now know that the resources industry - coal, metals and gas - will need to do even more of the heavy-lifting as Queensland recovers," Mr Macfarlane said.
"In his first comments today, incoming Treasurer Cameron Dick cited the role of mining, agriculture and manufacturing. We are keen work with him to chart the way forward for Queensland's recovery."
Mr Macfarlane said he congratulated Steven Miles' appointment as Deputy Premier, Craig Crawford as Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Glenn Butcher as the new Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing.
"The role of a Minister for Regional Development has pushed by QRC since before the 2017 election. As the Member for Gladstone - a key centre for the resources industry - Glenn Butcher knows the contribution of our sector to his local electorate and across the State."
Mr Macfarlane said he looked forward to working with Minister Crawford in his additional capacity responsible for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships as the mining was the leading private sector employer of Indigenous Queenslanders.
Mr Macfarlane said the QRC had worked with former Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad on key reforms.
