- Crisafulli Government to acquire a key site from Redlands Investment Corporation to progress delivery of promised extra car parking.
- The strategic acquisition follows Redlands City Council's decision in December 2025 to terminate a planned neighbouring development, which was being delivered alongside the state-funded carparking solution.
- The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Redlands mainland and island locals, after a decade of decline under Labor.
The Crisafulli Government is driving forward with long-awaited extra carparking for Redland City and island locals with the acquisition of a key site from Redlands Investment Corporation.
The move will enable Economic Development Queensland to accelerate the delivery of the Crisafulli Government's promise to the Redlands community to improve car parking for locals on the mainland and nearby islands, after a decade of neglect under Labor.
The move comes after Redland City Council terminated a development agreement in place for over two years, which would have delivered a substantial state-funded multi-level carpark as part of a broader retail development.
The land acquisition will enable Economic Development Queensland to fast-track the delivery of carparking, with work well advanced to finalise the carpark's design, planning approval and construction contracting.
The land is located within the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area, enabling Economic Development Queensland to acquire the site through its compulsory acquisition powers.
Deputy Premier, and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations, Jarrod Bleijie said the move was unlocking a long-awaited solution for Redland City mainland and island locals.
"The Crisafulli Government does what we say we're going to do, and we won't allow inaction by others to be a barrier," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"It's regrettable that for more than two years after the preferred development partner was announced, the Council opted to terminate its partnership, which impacted building the long-awaited carpark next door.
"As such, Economic Development Queensland is using its compulsory acquisition powers to step in, secure and fast track a solution the community has been crying out for over many years."
Member for Redlands Rebecca Young said the Crisafulli Government was delivering on its commitment to address the chronic shortage of long-term carparking within the Weinam Creek Marina area for island residents.
"Right now, residents on the likes of Russell, Peel and Lamb Island have struggled to even do simple things like visiting a doctor, getting groceries and other parts of daily life that we can take for granted on the mainland, simply because there's nowhere to park," Ms Young said.
"We promised the people of Redlands a fresh start and we're taking action to ensure there are no further delays and indecision."
