Queensland Champions Global Education at Osaka Expo

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training The Honourable Ros Bates
  • Queensland's biggest education and innovation delegation hits the global stage at World Expo Osaka.
  • Minister Bates leads the mission, delivering on the new Queensland–Japan Trade and Investment Strategy 2025-2028.
  • International education is a $6.85 billion powerhouse, supporting 30,000 Queensland jobs across 300 providers.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a major international trade mission to revitalise Queensland's education, research, and innovation sectors - areas that stagnated under years of the former Labor Government's neglect and missed opportunities.

Led by Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates, the delegation is backing 37 of Queensland's leading universities, training providers, and institutions to forge new partnerships across Asia.

The delegation will engage in high-level meetings in Taiwan and Japan, culminating in a major showcase at World Expo 2025 in Osaka - a global platform that the previous Labor Government failed to seize on which left Queensland sidelined as an international contender.

The visit aligns with the new Queensland-Japan Trade and Investment Strategy 2025–2028, which outlines practical steps to grow collaboration in education, research, and commercialisation, matching Queensland's strengths with Japan's future needs.

At the Australia Pavilion in Osaka, Minister Bates will host a major Queensland reception with Japan government representatives, alumni, and education leaders.

International education remains Queensland's biggest services export, worth $6.85 billion and supporting around 30,000 jobs. In 2024, more than 157,000 international students from 160 countries studied in Queensland.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the trade mission would highlight that Queensland is open for business.

"The Crisafulli Government is focused on outcomes, jobs, investment and long-term partnerships that deliver for Queenslanders," Minister Bates said.

"We're taking Queensland's best to the world and bringing new opportunities home.

"This is a government that backs industry, builds trust, and delivers results - after years of Labor drift, Queensland is finally back on the map."
