Queensland Extradites Wanted Man for Child Sexual Assault

A man has been extradited from Queensland and charged with an outstanding arrest warrant over alleged historical child sex offences.

In 2009, officers from Cumberland Police Area Command commenced an investigation into alleged historical sexual violence offences that occurred in Merrylands between 1991 and 1994.

Following extensive inquires, officers from Queensland Police Service arrested a 52-year-old man in Yarrabilba by virtue of an outstanding NSW arrest warrant on Monday (19 June 2023).

Yesterday (Wednesday 21 June 2023), detectives travelled to Queensland where they applied for, and were granted, the man's extradition to NSW.

He was escorted by police and arrived at Sydney Airport late yesterday (Wednesday 21 June 2023).

The man was then taken to Mascot Police Station, where the outstanding warrant was executed for the offences of aggravated sexual assault – victim under 16 and aggravated act of indecency – victim under 16.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl, who was known to him, between 1991 and 1994.

The man was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today (Thursday 22 June 2023).
