The Crisafulli Government's plan to address Labor's skills shortage has been marked this National Skills Week, with a Parliament House showcase celebrating the Government's commitment to the skills and training central for Queensland's future.
National Skills Week is Australia's annual celebration of vocational education and training. It encourages people to "Explore All the Options", from apprenticeships and traineeships to short courses and micro-credentials – pathways leading directly to jobs and careers.
At Parliament today, TAFE Queensland turned the building into a live training ground, with hands-on demonstrations in priority trades including, construction, carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying and electrical.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a Fresh Start for Queensland with more training and employment opportunities to help address the skills shortage left by Labor, including delivering $201 million for a TAFE Excellence Precinct in Rockhampton, and TAFE Centres of Excellence for the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates, said the Crisafulli Government was proud to support National Skills Week and the vital work of TAFE Queensland.
"National Skills Week is about recognising the importance of vocational training to Queensland's future, and the Crisafulli Government is backing it every step of the way," Minister Bates said.
"While Labor spent a decade presiding over a skills shortage, we want more Queenslanders to see training as a pathway to building the lifestyle they deserve.
"That is why we're investing in world-class TAFE Centres of Excellence, expanding the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy, and training the tradies, technicians and professionals our state needs for a stronger future.
"This is just another way we are delivering on our promise to rebuild Queensland's workforce with the skills our economy demands."
