The Crisafulli Government has delivered new grants to support women across the state with the the inaugural Empowering Queensland Women program.

A total of $279,000 has been awarded to 29 organisations to fund initiatives that strengthen the economic security and empowerment opportunities for Queensland women and girls.

The new grants support community initiatives, including:

  • a program to help older women navigate housing changes and strengthen their economic security,
  • a leadership program for young rural sportswomen through the Alpha Amateur Swimming Club in Barcaldine, and
  • a financial literacy podcast series by the Indigenous Media Association in Brisbane.

The Crisafulli Government has also announced Queensland Women's Week will take place from Sunday 8 March to Saturday 14 March 2026, celebrating the significant achievements of women and girls across the state.

Minister for Women and Women's Economic Security Fiona Simpson said these grants were helping women build confidence, financial agency, and long-term economic security.

"It's encouraging to see how many organisations are dedicated to fostering women's economic security, particularly in regional and rural areas," Minister Simpson said.

"After a decade of decline under a Labor Government who didn't listen to regional women, the Crisafulli Government is listening and is committed to securing lasting economic opportunities for women and girls.

"This year's theme for Queensland Women's Week is 'shaping tomorrow together' because we all have a part to play in working for a better tomorrow when it comes to women's economic security."

Brisbane Indigenous Media Association CEO Renita Anderson said their project will also improve financial literacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island women through a five‑episode podcast and radio miniseries covering budgeting, credit, superannuation and financial safety.

"This grant will play a vital role in making financial information accessible and empowering First Nations women to create lasting change for themselves and their families," Ms Anderson said.

Queenslanders can help shape the state's first Women's Economic Security Strategy, which will be released in the lead up to Queensland Women's Week, by completing the Women's Economic Security survey .

Organisations, schools, businesses, workplaces, clubs and community groups are encouraged to reflect on how they are shaping tomorrow for women and girls by getting involved and listing their events on the Queensland Women's Week website .
