- The Crisafulli Government is delivering meaningful support for the arts sector in Queensland after 10 years of decline under Labor.
The Crisafulli Government has delivered on an election commitment to extend Wondai Regional Art Gallery, backing local artists and enhancing arts experiences for regional Queenslanders.
The $100,000 extension creates a versatile, functional space that can cater for workshops and community events, featuring a covered deck and direct access to the gallery's studio.
Wondai Regional Art Gallery is a popular community hub in the South Burnett region, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The extension adds valuable space, enhances its visitor experience, and provides more ways for people to connect with local arts and culture.
After 10 years of decline under Labor, where the former Government failed to back Queensland's arts sector, the Crisafulli Government is delivering meaningful support.
The $75.8 million Arts Budget lays the foundation for a fresh start with more funding to upgrade arts venues across the State, while increasing access to the arts for more Queenslanders.
Over the next four years, more than $24 million will support arts venues across Queensland, including Queensland's Cultural Centre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, State Library of Queensland, and Queensland Museum Tropics.
Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government had delivered more during the first 10 months in office, than Labor had during their decade of decline.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering for regional Queenslanders by enhancing Wondai Regional Art Gallery, just like we promised," Minister Langbroek said.
"Investing in arts infrastructure helps locals and visitors enjoy arts experiences, which is a key priority in our Queensland's Time to Shine 10-year strategy.
"We must look for more opportunities to enhance venues, opportunities and experiences to strengthen our cultural and creative reputation in the lead up to the 2032 Games and beyond."
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the upgrade provided the gallery with improved accessibility, comfort, and the capacity to host larger events.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering for regional communities and this extension is a fantastic addition for a thriving local gallery," Ms Frecklington said.
"The extra room and undercover area will allow locals and visitors to enjoy more art in the South Burnett, and I want to acknowledge the work of the Wondai Regional Art Gallery to bring this vision to life.
"I'm very proud to have delivered on this election commitment for my community."
Wondai Regional Art Gallery President Elaine Madill said the extension will help the gallery to celebrate, develop and share more local artistic talent.
"The gallery is a much-loved place for our community, welcoming over 5,800 visitors throughout the year," Ms Madill said.
"This extension will extend the life of our studio and enhance the quality of work the gallery does to promote the artists and the artistic talent of the adults and children of South Burnett."
