The Queensland Government is seeking feedback from Queenslanders to modernise the State's Environmental Offsets Framework - making it easier to access while unlocking better outcomes for the environment.
The Offsets Framework provides flexible options for protecting the environment, including payments to an offset fund for government-led actions, direct management of offsets by companies, and funding targeted activities like research to deliver environmental benefits.
The review will focus on improving accessibility, reducing unnecessary complexity, and ensuring offsets are delivering measurable environmental benefits.
The current framework is 12 years old, and a review will update the framework to ensure it achieves conservation outcomes while continuing to support Queensland's growth.
Executive Director for Environment and Conservation Policy and Legislation Kahil Lloyd said the review would ensure the framework is practical, accessible and delivering real results for Queensland's natural environment and wildlife.
"Environmental offsets are a practical tool to make sure that when impacts can't be avoided, we deliver real environmental benefits," Mr Lloyd said.
"That can include restoring habitat, protecting land or funding conservation programs.
"We know people right across Queensland - landholders, conservationists, industry and local communities - have great ideas about how this system could work better for the environment.
"That's why we're asking Queenslanders to have their say."
The discussion paper is now available for public consultation. To have your say, view the Environmental Offsets Framework information on the Queensland Government's website:
