Hume City Council has welcomed the Victorian Labor party's commitment of $494 million to deliver the duplication of Somerton Road between Roxburgh Park Drive and Fleetwood Drive.
The commitment follows more than 15 years of advocacy by Hume City Council, local residents and community groups for the critical road upgrade.
Council is calling on all major parties to match this commitment and ensure the duplication of Somerton Road is delivered for Hume's growing community.
Somerton Road is a major east–west connection through Melbourne's growing north, linking residential communities with employment precincts, schools, shopping centres and transport hubs.
The section between Roxburgh Park Drive and Fleetwood Drive remains unduplicated and carries approximately 27,000 vehicles each day, contributing to significant congestion and ongoing road safety concerns.
Hume City Council has identified the duplication as one of its key advocacy priorities under its Advocacy Framework 2026–2030.
