Queensland Wins as Fans Flock for Socceroos-Brazil Match

• More than half of all ticket holders are travelling to attend the Crisafulli Government-secured Socceroos FIFA World Cup homecoming series against Brazil.

The Crisafulli Government's plan to make Queensland Australia's events capital continues to deliver, with more than 90 per cent of tickets sold for the Socceroos' FIFA World Cup homecoming series against Brazil and 57 per cent of fans travelling from outside the host regions.

The blockbuster September fixtures have attracted fans from near and far, proving once again that world-class events deliver far more than packed stadiums – they fill hotel rooms, support local businesses and create jobs in communities across the State.

Ticket sales show the event is attracting significant visitor demand, with almost half of Townsville attendees travelling from outside the local government area, while six in ten Brisbane ticket holders are travelling from outside the host city.

Across both matches, 57 per cent of fans are travelling from outside the host local government area to experience the series.

The Crisafulli Government secured the exclusive Australian hosting rights for Brazil's September tour, bringing the five-time FIFA World Cup champions to Queensland for matches at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on 25 September and Suncorp Stadium on 29 September.

The series will also include public training sessions, fan engagement activities and local club programs, extending the benefits beyond match day and supporting grassroots football across Queensland.

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said Queensland was proving it was the home of world-class events.

"When we bring world-class events to Queensland, we bring the fans with them - and that's great news for local businesses, local jobs and local communities," Minister Powell said.

" People aren't just coming to watch a game, they're staying in our hotels, eating in our restaurants, visiting our attractions and spending money in our communities.

"The Socceroos taking on Brazil is exactly the type of event we said we would fight for, and the response from fans shows there is enormous demand for Queensland to host the biggest events on the sporting calendar.

"Queensland is becoming Australia's events capital, and we'll keep working to bring more of these world-class experiences to every corner of our State.

"With limited tickets remaining, we're encouraging fans to get in quickly and be part of the Socceroos' homecoming against Brazil."

Member for Townsville Adam Baillie said the match demonstrated the Crisafulli Government's commitment to delivering for regional Queensland.

"Regional Queensland deserves access to the same world-class experiences as anywhere else in the country and that's why we're proud to see this event coming to Townsville, cementing our reputation as the Sporting and Events Capital of the North," Mr Baillie said.
