Queer in Kingston, Midsumma 2020 to be launched at Kingston's Pop Up Bar
An exciting, new immersive multimedia exhibition by Yandell Walton, Willow Franklin and Queer in Kingston will be launched on Friday 7 February at Kingston's Pop Up Bar.
The collaborative project for the Midsumma Festival at Kingston Arts, sees established Melbourne-based projection artist Yandell Walton and emerging digital media artist Willow Franklin work together to explore identity from the perspectives of Queer in Kingston.
Queer in Kingston is an inclusive social support group for young people aged 14 to 25, who identify as same-sex attracted, gender diverse, queer or questioning.
Through a series of arts workshops at Kingston Arts Centre over January, the artists and participants collaborated to create a unique portrait of LGBTQIA+ life and experience through the mediums of photography, video and projection art.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said the City of Kingston was proud to be a part of the hugely popular Midsumma Festival and showcase our emerging local artists.
"I really encourage the community to come along to this innovative and engaging exhibition that provides a snapshot into the life of a group of our young people living in Kingston," Cr Oxley said.
"Come and enjoy some of the other family-friendly entertainment, free workshops, food and music on offer at Kingston Arts' Pop Up bar while you are there."
The exhibition will be launched at Kingston's Pop Up Bar at 5pm on 7 February and will continue at Kingston Arts Centre until Saturday 7 March 2020.
Food trucks and a pay bar will also be available at Kingston's Pop Up Bar every Friday night in February.
