Railway employee assaulted; robbed at Taree

Police are investigating the assault of a railway employee during a robbery on the state's north coast.

Just before 2am (Monday 1 April 2019), a 62-year-old man had ended his shift at Taree Railway Station and was closing the office when he was confronted by four men.

The group assaulted the man, demanding he open the office and give them access to the cash register.

They fled with a small amount of cash and emergency services were alerted.

Officers from Manning / Great Lakes Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The man was treated at the scene for swelling and bleeding.

An investigation into the incident is underway and police are appealing for public assistance as they attempt to identify and locate those involved.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw four people in dark clothing in the area at the time.
